Station 30, Abbott Northwestern’s dedicated oncology unit, is a 30-bed unit staffed
by specially-trained nurses who care for people with a hematology or oncology condition. Treatment
for Station 30 patients may include chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplant
or pain management.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment may include hospital stays over a course of years,
creating a need for trust, long term relationships and consistent care on Station
30. The Station 30 nurses have education in oncology care, chemotherapy administration,
bone marrow transplant, and care of the dying. They also have expertise in pain
management, acute multi-system assessment skills, and long term support.
Care at Station 30 is designed to respect the individual’s history, current situation,
values and hopes for the future. Station 30 staff, including nurses, social workers,
dietitians and chaplains, is part of the patient’s daily care, coordinating care
from hospitalization to the return to the community.
