All beds are located on the fifth floor in the east tower of the hospital (5E). Two-way communications between the desk and patient/therapy rooms is possible through the patient call system. Emergency equipment available on the unit includes: defibrillator and monitor, crash cart, arrest board, ambu bag and airways, and portable oxygen. Computers, lab printer, fax machine and TV/VCR are available for clinical information communication.
- Adult psychiatry (AP2) - 16 dedicated beds (two with headwalls having air, suction, and oxygen outlets)
- Adult psychiatry (AP1) - 16 dedicated beds
The physical structure is based on a centralized nursing station on 5E. Group therapy rooms on 5E allow for integrated programming of the adult inpatient and partial hospital patient.
All patients have a primary mental health diagnosis and are experiencing an acute exacerbation of psychiatric symptoms that interferes with their ability to carry out activities of daily living. The unit accepts admissions facilitated by Assessment & Referral Services, direct admissions, medically stabilized transfers from the hospital's medical units and outpatients.
The unit staff is comprised of a nurse manager, clinical development coordinator (CDCs), partial hospital coordinator, registered nurses (RNs), behavioral health associates (BHAs), program specialists (PSs), health unit coordinators (HUCs), and program therapists (PTs). RNs also function in the charge nurse role.
A multidisciplinary team provides patient care, which is a collaborative and delegated relationship between RNs, PTs, PSs and BHAs caring for a group of patients - each functioning within the relative scope of practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act, applicable licensure and role accountabilities. Integrated patient care is accomplished through collaboration with other hospital services including, but not limited to, Pharmacy, Nutritional Services, Laboratory, Pastoral Care and Rehabilitation Services.
