Dr. Laura July is a board certified general surgeon with a special interest in helping those with obesity – and its serious associated health problems.
Dr. July received her bachelor’s degree in anatomy (with honors) from the University of Saskatchewan, where she also graduated from medical school in 1995. She completed a general surgery residency at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, in 2004 and participated in a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery at Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon, an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. Prior to joining the Allina Medical Clinic’s Surgical Specialties group, Dr. July was performing bariatric surgical procedures in Milwaukee, Wis., and Florence, Ky.
As one of very few female bariatric surgeons in the U.S., Dr. July’s practice primarily focuses on laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedures (Lap-BandŽ and REALIZE™). These less-invasive procedures provide long-term weight loss success and a quicker recovery. With a variety of surgical options for its patients, Unity Hospital Bariatric Center was a draw for Dr. July who wanted to be a part of a multidisciplinary team of experts who can tailor individual weight loss programs for patients.
Dr. July lives in Champlin with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys playing the guitar and keyboard, cycling, boxing, weight lifting, theater and travel.
