With an eye for innovative ideas and new technology, Dr. Jeffrey Baker has committed his career to developing an expertise in
minimally invasive surgery. Having performed more than 900 surgeries, Dr. Baker helped pioneer this technique, as well has
been sought out to teach this technique to other surgeons.
Dr. Baker works with each patient to help them determine the surgery most appropriate for them. to best meet his
patient’s needs, Dr. Baker performs both open and laparoscopic Roux en Y procedures, the Laparoscopic Adjustable Banding
procedure (Lap-BandŽ), as well as revisions to previously unsuccessful surgeries.
Dr. Baker also is on the forefront of the ever-changing insurance market. He serves on advisory boards for both
HealthPartners and Medica, and performs reviews for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. this involvement allows Baker
Bariatrics, LLC and Unity Hospital to effectively help patients navigate the insurance-approval process and improve coverage
for bariatric surgery.
An alumnus of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Baker completed his residency in general and trauma
surgery at Hennepin County Medical Center. He has published articles on both minimally invasive and general surgery
techniques, and has contributed to studies determining why patients experience less pain following a laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Baker grew up in the twin Cities’ northern suburb. In his free time, he enjoys time with his family, competitive downhill
ski racing and competitive road cycling.
