Partners for Violence Prevention

Partners for Violence Prevention (PVP) is a collaborative, community-based initiative founded in 1996 by the United Hospital Foundation and the Allina Foundation. PVP grew out of desire by the community to address the concerns of fear and safety in the West 7th neighborhood of Saint Paul. Since its founding, PVP’s work has broadened to include the West 7th Family Center, EastSide Peacemakers working in four additional neighborhoods in St. Paul and some programs are offered metro-wide.

The Mission of Partners for Violence Prevention is to promote peace, reduce the incidence and impact of violence, and build the capacity for violence prevention in the community.

PVP’s Guiding Principles are:
We believe that…
…everyone has a right to a peaceful life.
…working in partnership with others is the best way to accomplish our mission in a sustainable way.
…our activities must mirror the needs of the community.
…our work must include the diverse voices of the community.
…a culture of peace will be created and will transcend time.

In keeping with our mission, PVP’s approach is to support (not duplicate) existing services, connect existing services in productive and sustainable ways and to provide violence prevention resources for existing services who have neither the capacity or financial ability to access these resources for themselves. PVP works with many organizations representing a number of different disciplines. We are fortunate to work with more than 40 partners in a very collaborative approach to violence prevention and peace promotion.
