Nursing education programs and services are offered through United's Education Services Department. Education Services supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of Allina and United Hospital through collaboration with leadership and staff. We identify learning needs by focusing on care and service, mandated and regulatory requirements and hospital- and corporate-wide initiatives.
The Education Services Department reports to Julie Sabo, director of education, practice and community, and Susan Rainey, manager. The department is organized centrally, providing service for all of United.
We work closely with Care Center leadership to meet the education needs of our nursing staff, who are an essential component of the excellent care provided at United Hospital. This commitment to nursing is demonstrated through:
Clinical development
Provide a specialized orientation program for new grads and summer interns
Support nursing competency, focusing on required competencies and ongoing staff education
Enhance the skill, knowledge and confidence of the nursing team by providing
workshops, seminars and courses such as Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced ECG, Basic Life Support, Essentials of Critical Care Orientation
Professional development
Strengthen nursing leadership through the development of key nursing roles: Professional Nursing Preceptor Workshop and the Charge Nurse Workshop
Advance the expertise of nursing through specialty certifications – Many of our nurses and nursing leaders are certified or pursuing certification in specialty nursing fields that help them provide high-quality care
Academic opportunities
Collaborate with our academic community to provide student clinical experiences
Coordinate with Augsburg College to offer an on-site BSN completion program for registered nurses
Continuing education
Maintain a Learning Lab and skill lab to enhance skill and knowledge acquisition and attain contact hours for license renewal
Regulatory compliance
Provide support for mandatory education, JCAHO preparation and annual compliance training
