Cardiac maintenance program

The cardiac maintenance program at the Milton M. Hurwitz ExerCare Fitness Center provides medically safe, effective exercise and education programs that help with management, prevention and rehabilitation of heart-related conditions, including

• cardiac procedures/cardiac surgery
• heart attack
• cardiac-related conditions (cardiomyopathy, angina, arrhythmias)
• diabetes and metabolic disorders
• pulmonary disease/pulmonary conditions
• peripheral vascular disease
• physical reactivation/reconditioning (after physical therapy)
• chronic or progressive conditions or disease (pain management, post-polio, lupus, cancer and others)
• anxiety disorders
• Other risk factors (weight management, hypertension, sedentary lifestyle, elevated cholesterol, aging)

Unlike other local fitness centers, ExerCare has a clinically trained staff, including registered nurses and exercise physiologists, who help you with your exercise program and provide on-site symptom management and emergency care. The clinically trained staff provides education and guidance for risk-factor reduction, and they can identify problems early and make recommendations to help prevent problems from becoming emergencies.

• multidisciplinary staff (registered nurses, exercise physiologists and diabetes educator) provide supervision in the fitness center

• locker rooms with showers, free locker and lock usage, towels, soap, shampoo, deodorant, hair spray and lotion
• wellness library and newsletter
• documentation of exercise session progress for work level, duration and clinical response
• routine exercise program updates to ensure member satisfaction and goal attainment.

Monitoring abilities

• blood pressure readings
• quick look electrocardiogram checks
• blood sugar monitoring
• oxygen saturation levels
• symptom monitoring and treatment
• on-site emergency equipment and emergency medication
• progress reports to your physician or a copy of clinical exercise data (upon request)
