911 pre-arrival instructions to Dakota County
Imagine that your wife has just gone into labor and that the baby won't wait.
You dial 911.
The dispatcher who answers asks, "What is your emergency?" You
respond, "Labor, my wife is in labor and the baby just won't wait!"
Assessing
the critical nature of the call, the dispatcher immediately dispatches an ambulance
and transfers you to Allina Medical Transportation's 911 Communication Center
for pre-arrival instructions. Once connected, a trained emergency medical dispatcher
assists you in delivering your baby successfully.
This is just one example of where seconds count, when a loved one is in need
of emergency medical attention.
On January 1, 2003, Allina Medical Transportation
began providing pre-arrival instructions for calls from five Communication Centers
in Dakota County that warrant immediate zero response time.
Under the partnership between Allina Medical Transportation and the Apple Valley,
Dakota Co. Sheriff, Eagan, Lakeville, West St. Paul Dispatch Centers, if a 911
call is time-life critical, the caller will be transferred to Allina Medical Transportation's Communication
Center for pre-arrival instructions. Allina Medical Transportation dispatchers are trained to execute
pre-arrival instructions over the phone for incidents including choking, sudden
cardiac arrest and imminent childbirth.
All cities in Dakota County, except
Burnsville, now receive pre-arrival instruction from Allina Medical Transportation.
The City of Burnsville currently provides pre-arrival instructions through its
local 911 dispatch center.
