The Voice Rehabilitation Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and United Hospital provides care and treatment for people who depend on their voices to earn their living or have voice difficulties in any speaking situation.
After diagnosis of a voice problem, you can be referred to the Voice Rehabilitation
Center where speech-language pathologists will work with you to develop a rehabilitation
plan.
To plan your rehabilitation, additional evaluation may be needed. The Voice Rehabilitation
Center uses videostroboscopy to examine your vocal folds in action. Other evaluations
performed by the speech-language pathologist assess:
patterns of voice usage
breath support for proper voice production
pitch, loudness and vocal quality
inflection, diction and timing
tension in the support structures of the larynx
Your voice rehabilitation goals may include, but are not limited to:
instruction in proper voice production techniques and breath support
elimination of behaviors that contribute to vocal abuse
reduction of tension in the larynx and its supporting structures
enhancement of vocal skills needed in sales, public speaking, drama or singing
instruction in how to modify timbre, inflection, melody, emphasis and timing
laryngeal control therapy in the event of paradoxical vocal cord movement
Laryngectomy Evaluation and Treatment
Our speech-language pathologists also offer services for people having surgery of the larynx (voice box), mouth or throat. We offer
