The Seating Clinic at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers a comprehensive evaluation to determine the appropriate seating cushion and wheelchair for anyone who requires them. Our therapists are well qualified with more than 15 years of experience in determining appropriate wheelchairs and cushions for individuals. They use the latest technology, including the Xsensor Pressure Mapping System that uses sensors and computer technology to accurately provide a cushion analysis for wheelchair seats.
A comprehensive evaluation is performed by a physical therapist, occupational therapist and an equipment nurse specialist to address the following:
skin integrity
edema
sensation
range of motion
muscle function
muscle tone
pelvic tilt
spine alignment
sitting balance
transportation needs
accessibility of the home
assistance available at home.
The team will make a recommendation and write a letter for your insurance company. You may try out the wheelchair and cushion for five to seven days at home to determine whether it will work for you. Our staff does not fabricate custom cushions or wheelchairs, but can refer individuals as needed for custom seating.
Our staff work with many different wheelchair vendors and will be happy to work with your vendor if you have one identified.
