Hand Rehabilitation

Photo of Hand Rehab Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for clients who have an injury or disease of the hand or arm. Our staff of occupational and physical therapists have specialized training and experience in hand rehabilitation and includes certified hand therapists.

Specific conditions treated include:

  • fractures
  • tendon injuries
  • cumulative trauma disorders
  • arthritis
  • joint replacement
  • nerve injuries
  • amputations
  • crush injuries
  • reconstructive surgeries

Continuum of care provides:

  • rapid intake
  • thorough evaluation
  • individualized treatment plan
  • timely and effective communication with referral sources
  • availability of additional specialized services (physicians and psychological counseling)
  • education to optimize the client’s involvement and reduce risk of re-injury
  • involvement in return to work issues

Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers hand rehabilitation services at several convenient locations. They are associated with specialized programs at the Institute, such as the Work Injury Program and the Performing Artists Clinic.

Comprehensive Services

Evaluation
Objective assessment may include evaluation of range of motion, strength, sensibility, edema, dexterity and functional hand use.

Treatment
Based upon evaluation results, an individualized treatment plan is developed to maximize functional outcome.

Treatment may include:

  • wound care
  • edema control
  • scar management
  • sensory re-education
  • soft tissue and joint mobilization
  • splinting (static and dynamic)
  • modalities (whirlpool, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, continuous passive motion, hot and cold packs)
  • biofeedback
  • functional retraining

Return to Work Intervention

  • functional capacity evaluation
  • on-site work analysis and ergonomic recommendations
  • work hardening

Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute’s Employer Services

Injury prevention consultation includes on-site work analysis and employee education classes. The sessions are individualized according to each company’s needs.
