Referrals and services
Ask your doctor for a referral if you think your condition could be improved
by any of these therapies:
Hand therapy involves the evaluation and treatment of hand
problems, including fractures in adults
or children, carpal
tunnel syndrome, arthritis, sprains,
wounds and burns. Our hand therapists also work with people who have had tendon
repair surgery.
Activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, meal
preparation, house cleaning, etc., often become difficult after a stroke, head
trauma, arthritis
or joint replacement surgery. We can help people relearn those skills. We’ll
even visit their homes to evaluate how to improve function and safety.
Cognitive retraining helps people who have sufferedstroke
or head
trauma focus on improving life management skills, such as money management,
safety awareness, memory, problem solving, and functioning in the community.
Work conditioning helps the injured worker get ready to return to
full work duties. Physical and occupational therapists will work with you
on general aerobic conditioning, specific work simulation, and body mechanics
related to work tasks. They’ll also help determine ways to decrease job stress
and prevent future injury.
Services for industry include customized education for specific
companies and positions, injury prevention training, on-site ergonomic assessments,
return to work programs, and functional evaluations to determine a person’s
physical capacity to return to work.
Costs and coverage
The cost of treatment for each patient is based on time and services. The length
and type of treatment depends on individual needs, the type and degree of illness
or injury, and many other factors.
Most insurance plans and Medicare will cover outpatient occupational therapy.
