Community Benefit
Giving Back to the Community
Owatonna Hospital and Allina Hospitals & Clinics are taking a leadership role to promote healthy eating and physical activity through their Heart Healthy Living and Obesity Initiatives with an emphasis on childhood obesity. Over the next five years, Allina and Owatonna Hospital will be working with community organizations to improve nutrition and increase physical activity to decrease obesity and improve heart health.
We also provide financial and in-kind support to improve the health of our community that centers around health, wellness and safety. Together, as neighbors and partners in the community, we work to make our community a healthier place to live.
In fact in 2006, Owatonna Hospital gave back more than $4 million to the community in community benefit investments. These include community benefit programs and initiatives that are listed below; unreimbursed costs from Medicare, Medicaid and insurance companies; and uncompensated care, which is care provided without receiving payment (charity care and bad debt).
We also work with the Independent School District #761 by subsidizing their athletic training program by providing sports medicine care from our own Center for Rehab & Wellness athletic trainer, T.C. and Jen Lorenzo at athletic events and practices. In addition, we work with area schools offering school group tours and participating as a training site for Owatonna High School’s TOP Team Program—a school-to-work and apprenticeship learning program.
Other community support includes financially supporting Mobile Meals.
