Birth Center

In the Birth Center at Owatonna Hospital you're going to meet two incredible people. The other one will be your nurse. Any new mother will tell you, it's the quality of care that makes all the difference in the birthing experience. That's why Owatonna Hospital has nurses who specialize in delivery, post-partum and new born care, including lactation experts. We work hand in hand with Owatonna Clinic obstetricians, pediatricians and family medicine physicians. And, we offer prenatal classes along with other support and education for pregnancy, birth and beyond.

What to Expect

Preparing for the birth of your child may seem overwhelming. Understanding what to expect can help you feel more confident and relaxed. We pledge to give you our best, working hard to respect your decisions and meet your expectations. You’re invited to have your partner or others present with you during labor and birth—both vaginal and cesarean—as well as after your baby is born..

Owatonna Hospital welcomes you to tour our Birth Center, which features:

  • 11 Owatonna Clinic family practice physicians and three board-certified OB/gynecology (GYN) specialists to provide care through pregnancy, labor and delivery.
  • OB/GYNs and certified nurse anesthetists, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Comfortable, private, patient labor and delivery and post-partum rooms.
  • A Level 1 Nursery.
  • Pain-control choices during labor, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Childbirth and parenting classes to help parents prepare.
  • Personalized care from experienced nurses who value your decisions and choices.
  • Online web nusery where friends and relatives no longer have to wait on the postman to see "new arrivals" at Owatonna Hospital. Owatonna Hospital now provides an online nursery to capture new babies, post them to our site, and deliver printed photos to excited new parents, grandparents and family members.

Parent Advisory Council

At the heart of patient- and family-centered care are dignity and respect, information sharing, participation and collaboration It’s based on the belief that patients, families and healthcare providers are partners. This means everyone has input into decisions and choices to best meet the needs of the patient. Who knows better how it feels to be a patient than the parents we serve?

As a result, our Parent Advisory Council gives families a voice in decisions that affect patient care and family experiences. The council, which includes families and patient care staff, shapes and promotes family-centered values at Owatonna Hospital.
