Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Patients have rights and responsibilities, which allow them to take an active role in their health care. You will receive additional information regarding your rights at the time of admission.

Under “rights,” you will see that you:

  • Are entitled to complete information about your treatment
  • Are entitled to medical or personal care that is courteous and respectful
  • Can refuse care
  • Are entitled to privacy
  • Can expect that your health information found in your medical record will be treated as confidential
  • Can join the discussion to determine your treatment

Under “responsibilities,” we ask that you:

  • Provide accurate, complete information about your health
  • Ask questions when unclear about what you have been told
  • Follow the care or treatment plan
  • Follow the facility’s rules and regulations
  • Be respectful and considerate of the facility staff and property

We at New Ulm Medical Center are glad that you have come to us in your time of need. If you have any questions about your care or about your rights or responsibilities as a patient at our hospital, please ask any of the professionals who are caring for you.
