Surgery Department

Annually, New Ulm Medical Center performs more than 1,800 surgical procedures. We've added space and upgradedtechnology to our surgical services area to serve you and our community better.

A multi-faceted group of professionals encompasses the following surgical specialties using this department: general surgeons, obstetrician/gynecologists, otolaryngologists (ears, nose and throat specialist), orthopedic surgeons, urologists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, and facial and oral surgeons.

Our experienced Certified Registered Nurses Anesthetists are trained in all current anesthesia techniques to provide you with a positive outcome during your surgery.

Among some of the surgical procedures performed in the department are: lap chole’s, appendectomies, breast biopsies, cesarean sections, hysterectomies, tonsillectomies, total joint replacements, rotator cuff repair, vasectomies, cataract repair, bunionectomies, extraction of impacted teeth, and facial laceration repair.

Staff in the surgery department work collaboratively with physicians and surgeons to provide superior individualized care. We strive to answer all our patient’s questions and ease any anxiety you may be feeling regarding your surgery.

The surgery department is comprised of four vital areas: prescreening, same-day surgery, the operating room and the post-anesthesia care unit.

In prescreening, our trained registered nurses facilitate pre-operative preparation and provide education to patients undergoing elective inpatient surgical procedures. The same-day surgery area provides pre-and post-op care to inpatients and outpatients. This includes assessment of the patient, education and coordination of care.

The operating room provides surgical services for inpatients and outpatients, for both elective and emergency surgeries. This service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) provides recovery time post-operatively with one-on-one attention from our skilled nursing staff. Here, the patient is closely monitored and provided pain control and education.
