Owatonna Hospital, Owatonna Clinic Select HGA Architects and Engineers for New Healthcare Campus Project

OWATONNA, Minn. 10/24/2006--Owatonna Hospital and Owatonna Clinic announced today that Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. (HGA) Architects and Engineers has been selected to design the new hospital and anticipated clinic expansion located on 26th Street, off Interstate 35. The vision for the healthcare campus started in 1999 with Owatonna Clinic’s construction plans for the new 26th Street Clinic and the purchase of additional land to accommodate an integrated healthcare campus.

“HGA is one of the leading architectural firms in the United States that focuses on health care architecture,” said Dorothy Erdmann, Owatonna Hospital president. “The firm has a strong history of designing healthcare facilities that allow for future technology changes, provide space where staff can deliver efficient care and offer patients a comfortable, healing environment.”

The Owatonna Healthcare Campus architect selection committee, comprised of representatives from hospital and clinic management, staff, and physicians, were impressed by HGA’s experience in similar size projects, as well as their portfolio of unique, hospital designs. HGA was the architectural firm that designed the Owatonna Clinic 26th Street location, which was completed in 2002.

“It’s evident that HGA’s innovative designs are created to meet the needs of the patient and provide staff an efficient environment to work,” said Dr. Brian Whited, Owatonna Clinic family medicine physician and Owatonna Hospital vice president of medical affairs. “They’ve displayed unique design opportunities for bringing together the hospital and clinic on one healthcare campus and delivering a signature design for our region.”

Founded in 1953, HGA is an award-winning, full-service architecture, engineering and planning firm with offices in Minneapolis and Rochester, Minn.; Milwaukee, Wisc.; Los Angeles; San Francisco; and Sacramento, Calif. Leadership of the design project will be provided by the firm’s Minneapolis office. HGA provides planning and design services for healthcare; corporate; arts, community and education; and science and technology clients.

Construction on the 161,000 square foot Owatonna Healthcare Campus project is expected to begin summer 2007 with completion by early- to mid-2009.
