CDMSC Presents Quality Leadership Award to
Allina Hospitals & Clinics
MINNEAPOLIS 11/21/2003--
The Certification of Disability Management Specialists Commission
(CDMSC) presented its 2003 Quality Leadership Award to Allina
Hospitals & Clinics in recognition of its commitment to
excellence in disability management.
The award was presented in Washington, D.C., at a joint conference
sponsored by the Washington Business Group on Health (WBGH) and the
Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI). The conference, which was held
Nov. 19-21, is entitled, “Controlling Costs through Effective Human
Capital Investment: A National Forum on Health, Productivity, &
Absence Management.”
“We are pleased to honor Allina Hospitals & Clinics with this
year’s award for its comprehensive approach to disability
management,” stated Susan L. Gilpin, CEO of the CDMSC. “Allina’s
Internal Disability Case Management Program emphasizes communication
with all parties including medical providers, managers, and service
providers. Its fully inclusive internal disability case management
program features seamless remain-at-work and return-to-work
processes.”
Allina Hospitals & Clinics operates 13 hospitals and 42
clinics and has more than 22,000 employees. This employer-driven
disability program has strategic partnerships with Cigna Insurance
for long-term disability, Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc. for
worker’s compensation, and a number of significant local providers
who assist in the delivery of service.
The primary goal of Allina’s internal disability case management
program is to assist each injured employee to return to pre-injury
function and work as safely and quickly as possible. Securing a safe
work environment may require job modifications and possible
assignment to a different internal position within Allina Hospitals
& Clinics.
Its Internal Placement Program provides an innovative model for
other organizations that are self-insured and struggling to balance
the needs of the injured employee with the needs of the organization,
with outcomes that are positive for employee and the
organization.
“The 2003 National Forum on Health, Productivity and Absence
Management is the perfect venue to present the CDMSC’s Quality
Leadership Award,” observed Marybeth Stevens, chair of the CDMSC.
“As Allina has demonstrated, disability management is an important
strategy for companies wanting to improve productivity and employee
health while reducing unplanned absences.”
The 2003 National Forum is the effort of the WBGH, its Council on
Employee Health and Productivity (CEHP) and IBI. The forum brings
together a wide representation of senior-level attendees and
speakers, including both employers and service providers. The goal is
to share employer solutions, best practices and research findings.
Participants are also able to network with thought leaders regarding
new approaches, developing methods and data for quantifying their
company’s return on investment.
