Mercy & Unity Hospitals Foundation golf tournament benefits kids and familiesCOON RAPIDS, Minn. 05/09/2008--The Twinkling Angels Golf Tournament, a fundraiser to provide comfort to hospitalized children and families who are dealing with unfortunate circumstances, will be held Thursday, May 22 at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, Minn. "We extend a huge thanks to everyone who has participated in this event," said Julie Nelson Gotham, executive director of Mercy & Unity Hospitals Foundation, tournament sponsor. "The proceeds from this tournament have provided DVD players and movies for children’s hospital rooms, layette baskets for the hospitals and Christ Lutheran Church to distribute as needed, scholarships for children to attend burn camps, and markers for children whose gravesites may have gone unmarked." The Twinkling Angels Fund is a memorial established by Frank and Debbie Thurner of Ham Lake who lost two children in a 2002 car fire. Morningside Memorial Gardens; Anoka County Crisis Nursery; Burn Camp; Anoka County police, fire and sheriff departments, and Mercy and Unity Hospitals receive the proceeds. Last year, the tournament drew 220 golfers and raised $62,000. Registration on event day is at 11 a.m. with a noon shotgun start. The fee for four-somes is $400; individual players, $100; and individuals under 16, $85. Sponsorships and a dinner-only option are also available. Call 763-236-8199 for more information and register.
