Allina announces new Virginia Piper Cancer Institute executive
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 05/27/2009--Allina Hospitals & Clinics has appointed Roy Johnson, MBA, vice president of Virginia Piper Cancer Institute Clinical Service Line Operations. In his role, Johnson will help lead and support the strategic intent and operational needs of Allina oncology services.
Johnson has more than 25 years of executive health-care experience, including more than 15 years in oncology. For the last 10 years, he was the executive director in Illinois for US Oncology. In that position, he had comprehensive responsibility for 12 cancer centers and developed a strong integrated network of cancer care providers.
Led by Tim Sielaff, MD, PhD, MBA, oncologist and president of the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, Johnson will integrate oncology services throughout the communities served by Allina to assure patients receive consistently exceptional care.
"Roy has lived the vision of clinical excellence, and we are fortunate to have his skills and vision in Minnesota," said Sielaff. "He sees the opportunities for a broad integration of the services that make VPCI and Allina exceptional – the best cancer clinicians using the most advanced tools, clinical research, cancer rehabilitation, integrative medicine and nutrition just to name a few. We intend to integrate those resources and provide integrated care as close to patients’ homes as possible."
Sielaff says Johnson has a long-standing track record of dedication to the patient care experience, promoting clinical quality and working collaboratively with clinicians and patients. As vice president, he will be responsible for integrating family physicians, cancer-related specialists and other resources to advance prevention and early detection, acute cancer care, survivorship and end of life care.
Allina Hospitals & Clinics is a not-for-profit health care system of hospitals, clinics and other patient care services that provides exceptional care to communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin and employs more than 22,000 people. # # #
