Outstanding Achievement Award earned by Mercy & Unity Hospitals' cancer programFRIDLEY, MINN. 05/16/2007--Mercy & Unity Hospitals are among 31 institutions in the United States to receive the prestigious 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. "It is the community that truly benefits from quality cancer care close to home. We are fortunate to have a comprehensive staff and dedicated physicians who work as a team to provide the best treatment options, information and support for cancer patients and their families," said Rickie Ressler, president of Unity Hospital. Established in 2004, the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A facility receives the Outstanding Achievement Award following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates a commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program:
In addition, a facility receives a compliance rating for 29 remaining standards. The 31 programs that received the Outstanding Achievement Award as a result of surveys performed in 2006 represent approximately six percent of the programs surveyed during this period.
