Former Allina nurse releases book about domestic violence

FRIDLEY, Minn. 09/04/2009--Anoka County advocates for domestic abuse victims invite the public to a launch of “Beyond the Mirror.” Author Marlene Jezierski is a retired emergency department nurse of 30 years who worked at Allina’s Unity Hospital.

"Beyond the Mirror" is a collection of poems that tell stories that describe how words cause emotional and physical damage and why victims stay in abusive relationships. It also includes comments from victims on how they were helped by health care workers who recognized or were suspicious of their situations.

Jezierski will read selections and provide free copies of her book Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ Lutheran Church, 641 89th Ave. NE in Blaine. The event is free and will include refreshments, art and music.

Alexandra House, Anoka County Child Abuse Prevention Council, Christ Lutheran Church, Domestic Violence Council of Anoka County, Faith Community Nurse Program of Mercy and Unity hospitals, Partners in Faith for Peace and Starbucks are event sponsors.

For more information about the event, contact Lyla Pagels, 763-236-4342.
