Crystal Ball exceeds Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ expectations

05/01/2007--At least 660 people partied amid kites and balloons at the “Up, Up and Away” Crystal Ball, raising more than $240,000 for rapidly growing emergency services at Mercy & Unity Hospitals.

“I want to thank all of the people who supported the Crystal Ball. Because of the many contributions of time, talent, and treasure, we were able to surpass all of our goals,” Julie Nelson Gotham, executive director of the Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ Foundation said.

Guests were treated to a complimentary martini bar. Another highlight of the event was the "Take me out to the Crystal Ball Game," managed by the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary that raised $4,000. The Mercy Auxiliary donated $1,000 for cash prizes. Other prizes included four tickets to a Minnesota Twins game donated by the Minnesota Twins, a Tony Oliva signed baseball donated by Jane Hogie and many other gift certificates donated by various community businesses.

The Crystal Ball was held April 14 at the Courtyards of Andover. The presenting sponsor was Emergency Physicians Practice Associates (EPPA), and about 130 physicians from the Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ Medical Staff were among the guests.

Platinum sponsors were Connexus Energy, Metropolitan Cardiology Consultants and Suburban Radiological Consultants.

Gold Sponsors were 3M Championship, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Allina Hospitals & Clinics and Timco Construction.
