Allina's Mercy Hospital recognized for excellent intensive care

COON RAPIDS, Minn. 09/09/2009--Allina's Mercy Hospital has been awarded the 2009 Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

"Congratulations to the ICU team on this national recognition of excellence in critical care patient systems, outcomes and an environment for patient safety," said Mary Davern, director of Mercy's Patient Care Services.

"The Beacon Award is for nursing care, but it reflects the excellence of the entire staff," said Louise Jacobs, RN, MS, CCRN, manager of Mercy's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Mercy's Intensive Care Unit is a three-time Beacon Award winner, having received the honor in 2006 and 2007.

The Beacon Award recognizes critical care units for exhibiting the highest quality standards in nurse recruitment and retention, patient outcomes, staff training, healthy work environments, leadership, and evidence-based practice and research.
