Barbara Tate Unger of Abbott Northwestern Hospital is a Hero
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 09/03/2010--Barbara Tate Unger, RN, BS, FAACVPR, Director, CV Emergency Systems of Care at Abbott Northwestern Hospital has been selected by the American Heart Association as a Heart & Stroke Hero.
Unger's work in creating and implementing Minneapolis Heart Institute's Level One Heart Attack Program has resulted in improved patient outcomes. Additionally, Unger conducts national training for other health systems interested in setting up a Level One programs.
As her nominator, Patty Peterson, puts it, "Barb's patients are of the utmost importance to her and to see these patients live their lives after a heart or aortic event makes her smile—and this is a smile you won't forget.
“She doesn't always take credit for the life-saving changes she helped make, but her colleagues insist that it is Barb's vision and follow through that is the driving force behind so many important advances in cardiac care."
Unger and two other Heart & Stroke Heroes will receive her official award at the Heart & Stroke Gala Saturday, October 16 at Minneapolis Convention Center. More than 800 guests are expected to attend.
