Mercy Hospital Adult Volunteer Opportunities

MEMBERSHIP
- Active members volunteer in the hospital and are scheduled for a minimum
of 8 hours each month or as service area requires. Active membership dues
are $5.00.
- Associate members do not volunteer in the hospital. They help support our
activities by paying membership dues of $20.00.
TIME COMMITMENT
- Every other week for a minimum of 8 hours each month or as service area
requires.
- 104 hours of service each year.
REQUIREMENTS
- Attend an orientation meeting held at Mercy to learn about the program.
- Complete health requirements (mantoux test, MMR documentation, chicken pox).
- Fill out a Criminal Background Study Form as mandated by the Vulnerable
Adult Act.
- Complete HIPAA training (provided at orientation).
- Volunteers must wear a uniform. Information on purchasing the uniform will
be given at the orientation.
SERVICE AREAS
Baby Photos - Provide new mothers with information about having
their new baby's photo taken. (This position does not take the photo.) Walking
required, every week position preferred for two-hour shift starting at 9:00
am.
Cancer Resource Center - Greet patients, offer information about
resources and support. Friendly and caring personality required.
Coffee Shop - Fun, fast and friendly atmosphere. If you like coffee
and good food this is the place for you. Two shifts a day available-morning
and afternoons, must be able to stand for longer periods.
Emergency Room Patient Services - This vital area needs voluteers to assist with various duties in the ER area providing assistance with patients and acting as a liaison between patients, relatives and staff. Friendly and caring personality required. Special qualifications also apply.
Gift Shop Clerk- Come and work for our beautiful new gift shop. Four-hour
shifts available, open 7 days a week. Always working with someone. Standing
and walking required and ability to run a cash register.
Heart Center Family Waiting Room - Pleasant personality & professional
customer service demeanor. Customer service is key to this position. Support
is provided to the patients and families in the Heart Center Family Waiting
Room. Messenger & dispatcher responsibilities are also a part of this position.
Walking required to deliver flowers and mail. Other duties include, running
errands and discharging patients. Three shifts per day - weekdays only.
Information Desk - Greet patients' families, visitors and friends and
provide them with information, directions as needed. Answer incoming calls.
Fast-paced, busy, some computer work, will train.
Intensive Care Waiting Room Receptionist - Provide coffee and a
friendly place for the families of patients. Take messages for staff and families
and coordinate activities in the waiting room. Three shifts available weekdays.
Messenger - If you like to walk , this is the job for you. Deliveries
and errands are a major part of this position. This position is also responsible for
working at the very busy, west entrance information and visitor desk helping
and assisting patients and visitors. Three shifts a day, seven days a week. Great
opportunity to make a difference!
Messenger Dispatcher - This position is responsible for working
at the very busy Emergency Room desk helping and assisting patients and visitors.
Very pleasant personality required, must have a smile in your voice. Mainly
sitting, but some walking required.
Surgical Admissions and Recovery - This vital area needs a volunteer
to assist staff in the surgical area. This position will make up chart packets,
assist patients for admitting and discharge, and perform other duties to assist
staff. Three shifts per day, weekdays, no Friday nights.
Surgical Waiting Room Receptionist - Assist staff with patients'
families while they are in the waiting room. Many duties, pleasant personality.
Volunteer Services Receptionist - Greet and provide customer service
to the public, staff and volunteers. Will train in use of phone, copier, fax
and other areas. Knowledge of Microsoft software preferred.
2 West - Medical & Surgical - Greet ambulatory patients and direct
them to waiting rooms. Assist staff with clerical tasks. Excellent customer service skills.
Morning and evening shifts available.

Volunteer orientations are held every month.
