OVID

What it is

OVID provides access to the biomedical journal literature. Access is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, from your home or office.

Databases include:

  • MEDLINE(1966-present)
  • MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations
  • CINAHL - Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature
  • AMED - Allied & Complementary Medicine
  • Allina Journals@Ovid
  • Books@Ovid
  • EBM Reviews - ACP Journal Club
  • EBM Reviews - Cochrane Centeral Register of Controlled Trials
  • EBM Reviews - Database of Abstracts of Reviews or Effects
  • Ovid OLDMEDLINE (1951-1965)

OVID primarily consists of journal citations with abstracts, as well as links to full-text articles from about 45 key clinical journals.

Who can use it

OVID is available only to affiliated physicians and employees of Allina Hospitals & Clinics.

OVID is intended to be used for work-related needs, including clinical decision-making, management decision-making, performance improvement activities, patient/family education, continuing education of staff, or research. Personal access is not available to students.

How to register

Your signature is required as acceptance of our access use policy. Please:

  1. Open the registration form. If you have Adobe Reader, the form will automatically launch in your browser. If you do not have it, download Adobe Reader now.
  2. Complete the form online (except for the signature line). You can tab through different areas of the form.
  3. Print the form, sign it and return the form to us by mail or fax.

Please allow 5 business days for us to process your application. Your personal ID and password will be mailed to you.

MD Consult


What it is

MD Consult provides access to a family of online medical information sites including journal literature (many of the articles from the Clinics of North America series are available in fulltext), textbooks, practice guidelines, patient education, and news and reports.
