Allina Summer Nursing Student Internship: Program specifics

Allina Hospitals & Clinics offers a 10-week, paid summer internship experience to students about to graduate from nursing degree programs.

• The program is from June 2 to August 8, 2008.
• Locations include Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Allina Medical Clinic, Buffalo Hospital, Cambridge Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, New Ulm Medical Center, Owatonna Hospital, River Falls Area Hospital, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, United Hospital, and Unity Hospital.
• Interns may work 64 to 80 hours every two weeks, all shifts, including weekends. Exact hours and shift rotation depends on the designated preceptor's schedule. Interns are expected to work the full 10 week program and the hours they are scheduled with their preceptor.
• Out-of-state students may be required to register for the Internship course with a Minnesota school. In-state students should take the course through the school they are with.

Working alongside a registered nurse preceptor, each intern gains the practical experience and training needed to advance his or her career.

Clinical experiences

Every effort is made to place interns in clinical settings that match their career goals.

• Internship are available in a variety of areas, for example: behavioral health, birth center, cardiovascular care, emergency department, intensive care, medical/surgical, oncology, orthopedics, neuroscience, and rehabilitation.
• Interns also have opportunities to shadow in other areas of clinical interest for one to two days.
