Q. Can I apply onlinefor specific RN openings?

Q. What if I’m interested in more than one Allina facility?

A. Once a graduate nurse has submitted a Graduate Nurse Residency Program Application Packet, they may be considered for any new graduate position within Allina. One application is adequate for various sites and clinical areas.

Q. I’m a current Allina employee. Do I need to apply for the Program this way?

A. Both internal and external candidates must complete Application Packets for the program.

Q. What happens after 12 months and the program is complete? Do I have to apply for another position within Allina?

A. Those hired into the program are permanent employees. There will be no need to re-apply once the program is complete.

Q. What units hire New Grads?

A. There is a wide variety of units that hire new graduate RN’s, depending on the facility and the background of the candidate. Areas such as Critical Care and Labor & Delivery take on fewer new grads than areas such as Medical/Surgical, Cardiovascular and Oncology.

Q. How long does the nursing essay need to be when I submit my application packet?

A. It is totally up to you. Most essays are approximately one page but there is no specific requirement.

When should I submit my Graduate Nurse Residency Application Packet?

A. We accept applications year-round for the Program. Candidates apply any time from 4 months prior to their graduation date to several months after graduation. If you are hoping to start close after you graduate, we recommend submitting your packet about 2-3 months prior..

How are candidates selected?

A. When an opening becomes available, nurse recruiters review application packets and try to match the candidates’ interests with the opening. The strongest applications are then forwarded to the nurse manager at the site and a decision is made as to which applicant will be interviewed..

How long will my application be active?

A. We will consider your application active for 6 months..

Can I email my packet? How about fax?

A. At this time we prefer to receive the application packets through the U.S. Mail..

Can I send in a packet that is only partially complete?

A. We cannot process or consider application packets that are not complete. Please note however that if you are waiting for a reference from a clinical instructor, you may send the rest of your packet now and then send the reference in separately, once you receive it..

When can I expect to hear from Allina regarding my application?

A. It is impossible to predict how long the process will take. It depends on what openings we have posted, what areas you are interested in, what sites you are interested in and what the qualifications are for each opening. It is not uncommon for candidates to wait 3-4 months..

Am I eligible for the program if I attend a nursing school outside of Minnesota?

A. Yes, as long as you obtain a Minnesota RN License and your school meets the requirements detailed in the Program Qualifications..
