The Graduate Nurse Residency Program may vary by location and unit. The program may include but is not limited to the following sections:
I. New Graduates will attend several orientations which include New Employee Orientation, Patient Care Orientation, Nursing Orientation and Excellian Training (online medical record charting).
II. Department specific orientation is generally 6-10 weeks in length. New graduates will be paired with 1-2 preceptors from their unit.
III. The program also consists of Pull-Out Days. The sessions feature topics focused on the transition from student nurse into professional practice. They also provide an opportunity to learn from each other through sharing clinical stories and each other’s moments of excellence.
Program Goals
Gain the necessary skills to establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
Gain the knowledge and confidence to establish collaborative relationships with other health team members to assure coordination of care.
Understand and demonstrate responsibility, authority and accountability as a professional nurse.
