Active Living By Design
Breast Feeding Resources and Information Center

other resources, such as going back to work assistance, are offered for pregnant

Preparation for Childbirth Classes at Cambridge Medical Center
Community Education Classes

- District 911 Community Education sponsors these classes, call 763-689-6228
- Adult learners attending classes set individual goals ad work at their own
pace with the help of an instructor. Goals may include working a G.E.D. (high
school equivalency exam), brush up on math skills, or improving reading skills.
Other adults may wish to get help to pass a written drivers test or learn
to balance a checkbook. Since learners work at their own pace, they may begin
the program at any time and leave when they complete their goals. Confidential
one-to-one tutoring is available for non-reading or minimal reading adults
as well as a family literacy program.
- The Oak Land Area Learning Center offers an alternative education program
for individuals seeking to complete their high school diploma. The average
age is 16-21 years old (with some exceptions) and most students reside in
the Cambridge-Isanti, Princeton or St. Fransis School District. Services include
counseling, individualized and small group instruction, career exploration

Dellwood Learning Center

- The Dellwood Learning Center provides an educational environment for District
911 early childhood and parent education classes.
Early Childhood Family Education
- Cambridge-Isanti Community Education sponsors these classes, call 763-689-6227

- Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) offers classes, field trips and
special events for parents and children ages birth to kindergarten entrance.
The mission of ECFE is to strengthen families and support the ability of all
parents to provide the best possible environment for the healthy growth and
development of their children. A parent advisory committee, representing parent
interests and concerns, forms policies and plans activities for the program.
A schedule of classes and events is printed in the Cabridge-Isanti Community
Education brochure. All families are welcome. No one will be denied participation
due to inability to pay.
Early Childhood Special Education

- Early childhood special eduation classes for children ages birth to five
provide help to children with special needs and their families through home
visits and center classes. Services are jointly provided by Isanti County
Public Health Services, Family Services and School District 911.
Early Childhood Screening
- Call 763-689-6223 to schedule an appointment
- District 911 offers free health and development screenings that fulfill
the Minnesota state requirement that all children be screened before entering
kindergarten. This screening takes a look at your child's social, congnitive
and physical development. Parents receive information and resources offered
through the school and community. Children should be screened around their
fourth birthday. Screenings are held monthly during the schol year.
Food Assistance Program

- Any household receiving a public assistance grant is eligible to participate
in this food assistance program. Low-income households meeting certain financial
criteria are also eligible.
Food Shelf

- Provides emergency food supply to families in need. Located at the First
Baptist Church in Cambridge. Open Tuesday's beginning at 3:30 p.m.
General Assistance

- Financial, medical, food, fuel and transportation assistance. Counseling
is available.
Grief Support Group
Harbor Room -- Cancer Information Resource Center
- Services include online access to information, on-site literature and books, videos, classes, wigs, makeup, etc. The educational materials will be reviewed and approved by an oncologist. The room is designed to create a peaceful environment for cancer patients and families.

Head Start

- Centers are located in Cambridge, Isanti, Braham, Princeton, Rush City and
Stacy. The program provides home visits and centers for birth to five year
olds and their parents through the Lakes and Pines Community Action Council.
Isanti County Food Pantry

- Provides emergency food supply to families in need. Referral required from
Family Services (763-689-1711) or a local pastor. For more information call

- Meets the 4th Thursday of every month between 6 - 8 p.m. at Cambridge Medical
Center in the Foundation room

Isanti County Public Health Services

- Child and teen check-ups for ages six months to 21 years are available.
Schol, camp and sports physicals are also available.
- Provides free pregnancy testing, referral for prenatal care and home visits
both before and after baby comes. Resource materials include books and videos
on a variety of topics related to family life. Parenting classes are available
one-to-one or in small groups.

- The East Central Regional Library conducts story sessions quarterly for
preschool children ages 3-1/2 to 5 years old.
- The East Central Regional Library offers numerous programs throughout the
year for children and their parents.
- The East Central Regional Library can offer expectant mothers a wide range
of information. Material on prenatal care, pregnancy, delivery, and child
rearing are available in books, magazines and videos. The library also has
a wide variety of board books and picture books for you to share with your
newborn after their birth. These may be found in the Juvenile section of the
library.
