Fishing tournament - Sept. 19, 2009
Big cash prizes are on the line at Buffalo Hospital Foundation’s third annual fishing tournament, Saturday, Sept. 19 on Buffalo Lake. This year’s tournament will give out more than $2,700 in cash prizes! All proceeds from the tournament and silent auction will benefit Buffalo Hospital’s new Birth Center.
Prizes are awarded in each category (Northern, walleye and bass): first place winners take home $500, second place winners receive $300 and third place winners catch $100. Besides bigger prizes for anglers, the tournament also includes a fantastic silent auction with items that will appeal to everyone. Spa retreats, hunting, fishing and golf packages, jewelry, purses and things for children are just a few of the great items up for bid.
Consider becoming a major sponsor of this fundraiser, registering a fishing team, sponsoring a $50 bobber with your name or organization on it to line the park, or donating a cash gift or silent auction item. Your support will make a difference for local families.
The tournament is open to anyone who wants to fish. Registration is $100 for a two-person/1-boat team. Fishing begins at 8 a.m. with the weigh-in at 1:30. Even if you don’t fish, the weigh-in is fun to watch, so come on out to see the big fish and bid at the silent auction.

You can help illuminate downtown Buffalo in sparkling pink lights this October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by sponsoring a string of lights for the Pink Street Party in honor of a breast cancer survivor, in memory of a loved one, or simply in recognition of all those touched by cancer.
“It is going to be incredibly moving when we throw the switch and thousands of pink lights glow in honor of lives touched by cancer,” says Karla Heeter, Buffalo Hospital Foundation director. “Nearly everyone can think of someone who has been affected by cancer in some way. The Pink Street Party is a powerful event to recognize them.”
Buffalo Hospital Foundation, Sara’s Dance Foundation and Lillians are teaming up to plan the pink event to elevate cancer awareness and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed with cancer.
A $50 donation will sponsor a string of pink LED lights for the entire month of October. Honor a cancer survivor or the memory of loved one, recognize friends or caregivers, or sponsor a string of lights in hope that your friends, sisters, mothers or daughter never have to fight cancer. Funds raised from The Pink Street Party will be used to provide free mammograms for uninsured women in our community, to promote breast cancer education and to impact the quality of life for those diagnosed with cancer.
Dress up in your favorite pink outfit and head downtown for a Pink Street Party from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, with live music, food vendors and shopping galore! Gather in front of Lillians at 8 p.m. as we throw the switch and light the night sky with pink lights.
Mammo party - Oct. 24, 2009
Getting a mammogram has never been so relaxing and so much fun. If you have never had a mammogram, it's been more than a year since your last one, or if you don't have health insurance, this is the party for you. Buffalo Hospital Foundation is throwing a Mammo Party to help detect breast cancer early, Saturday, Oct. 24 at Buffalo Hospital.
"The American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and older get a mammogram every year, but lots of women avoid them," says Rose Voigt, Buffalo Hospital Imaging manager. "Since a mammogram is so important for detecting breast cancer early, Buffalo Hospital Foundation decided to create a warm, relaxing and fun atmosphere to encourage women to get a mammogram."
Buffalo Hospital and Buffalo Clinic are offering stress-free mammograms and much more. Check back for more details as the event gets closer. To sign up, call the Foundation at 763-684-6800.
