Electronic Medical Record - One patient. One record.Buffalo Hospital uses an electronic medical record system which is a computerized version of your paper medical record. It includes all the information needed to care for you, such as your medical history (allergies, medications, test results and other pertinent information) as well as your contact and insurance information.
In 2004, Buffalo Hospital was the first hospital in the Allina system to use this new record. Almost all Allina's hospitals and clinics now use this system, and your complete medical history at Allina is available to those caring for you at these facilities.
Advantages include:
Timely access to your medical information
Caregivers can see your complete medical history with a few clicks of the computer mouse, giving them immediate, easy access to your information.
Immediate safety checks
For your safety, the system automatically cross-checks your allergies and current medications with any new prescriptions being considered. Your caregiver will immediately know if there is a potential drug or allergy interaction and can order a different medication without delay.
Quicker access to test results
Your caregiver is notified by e-mail when test results have been added to your electronic medical record, eliminating the need for test results to travel from the lab.
Provide information once
The electronic medical record saves you time by only requiring you to provide your contact and insurance information once, including allergies, medications and prior health conditions. After that, all you need to do is verify that the information is up-to-date.
