Pharmacy Residency Program

Abbott Northwestern Pharmacy Practice Residency

The residency program at Abbott Northwestern Hospital prepares residents to practice as pharmacists in health-system pharmacy settings.

Specifically the practice develops the resident’s confidence in providing patient care; develops confidence in practice management; and requires the resident to complete an approved project.

    Acute Care Rotations:
  • Internal Medicine
  • Renal/Med Surg
  • Orthopedics/Neurology
  • Cardiology
  • Critical Care (60 ICU beds)
  • Behavorial Health
  • Oncology/Pain Management
  • Solid Organ Transplant
  • Infectious Disease

    Ambulatory Rotations:
  • Infection Disease and International Travel Clinic
  • Hospice

    Management Rotations:
  • Operational Management
  • Clinical Management
  • Director Management
  • Systems Formulary

Staffing

  • 52 shifts as a pharmacist (average of 4 shifts per 4 week schedule, 13 schedules)
  • three holidays are included in the 52 shifts

Requirements

  • doctor of pharmacy degree
  • eligibility for Minnesota licensure by September 1

Application Process

  • enrollment in national matching service
  • three letters of recommendation, curriculum vitae, college transcript and a letter of intent
  • on-site interviews to invited applicants in January
  • interviews conducted in January and February
  • interview/meetings with the program director, preceptors and staff pharmacist
  • 20-minute presentation
