The Abby Award
The Abby Award was created by Abbott Northwestern to recognize outstanding community
service and meaningful acts of citizenship consistent with the hospital's
emphasis on building community relations.
There can be up to three Abby winners per quarter. Each winner receives a cash
award of $250 and a memento. Groups that win will share the award.
The Abby may be awarded to anyone who lives, works or volunteers in the Phillips,
Powderhorn Park, Whittier, Central, Lyndale, Bryant, Bancroft or Corcoran neighborhoods.
The reason for nomination must be community health related. Employees of Abbott
Northwestern can be nominated if their volunteer work in the community is not
job-related.
Criteria for nominations
Nominations must fit into one of the following categories:
- Demonstration of continuous performance which reflects a commitment to exemplary
community service as it relates to building a healthier community.
- Implementation of an innovative idea that improved the quality of life of
the community.
- A single event or heroic act that has a significant impact on quality of
life in the community.
- Demonstration of a collaborative relationship that improved the health of
the community.
Nominations will be reviewed by an ad hoc group of the Healthier Communities Task
Force (HCTF) made up of community residents. This group will present recommendations
to the HCTF for a final decision.
All nominees who meet the criteria will be considered for the award. The ad hoc
committee may decide not to recommend any nominees if none meet the criteria.
There is no limit to the number of times someone may be nominated. However, each
nomination must be for a different accomplishment. The accomplishment must have
taken place within the past 12 months. Candidates can nominate themselves for
the award.
To make a nomination, please contact Joyce Krook at 612-863-4353.
