*If specimen is to be shared with Microbiology, do NOT use CytoLyt™ fixative.  = Collect specimen in sterile cup and send to lab.

INSTRUCTIONS:        &= nbsp;        1.   Three separate early morni= ng deep cough specimens collected on three consecutive days are desirable = for adequate examination. 

2.  = Have patient rinse mouth with water.

3.   <= /span>Have patient collect specimen directly into container of Cytolyt™ fixative= (caution:  patient should not drink Cytolyt™).

 

If specimen is to be shared with Microbiology, do NOT use CytoLyt™ fixative.  Coll= ect specimen in sterile cup and send to lab.&n= bsp; Do not refrigerate.

 

If fungus/Pneumocystis stain is also requested:   In Epic,  indicate "Cytology and Fungus = Stain.   In Star also order 3996= for fungus. 

 

Indicate pertinent clinical history/previous malignancy.
