Virginia Piper Cancer Institute Pancreatic Cancer Program

Overview

The diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the pancreas demands a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the best outcomes. The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute has assembled an unparalleled team that is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care today and advancing the science for tomorrow. The sole focus of the team is to provide the best experiences and outcomes for our patients and their families.

The central philosophy of the VPCI Pancreatic Cancer Program is to bring together surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists and radiologists to develop and implement a treatment plan that incorporates groundbreaking surgical techniques in combination with the most advanced clinical trials and radiation therapies. Regular treatment conferences where cases are reviewed - identifying the best treatment plan for our patients. Importantly, these advanced therapies are provided in a supportive and nurturing environment with all the resources of the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at your disposal.

From the first phone call to the program, patients are joined with a nurse coordinator. Our nurse coordinators have more than 25 years of combined experience in the care of patients with pancreatic cancer. They are a central part of the team and work with all of the providers to facilitate all aspects of care, including patient education, care coordination and symptom prevention/management.

Our program is truly unique because it brings together the most cutting edge treatments in a setting that is supportive, compassionate and dedicated to the restoration of health. Our team includes Cancer Rehabilitation, practitioners from the innovative Institute for Health and Healing and Palliative Care.
