As a clinical research center, the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute actively participates
in clinical and laboratory research projects on a national level. Research holds
the key to promising treatments and diagnostic techniques, and the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute
builds its research program on relevance and practical application to patients’
lives.
Increasingly, the Institute is moving beyond participating in research projects
to being a leader in substantive national research efforts. This progression is
made possible by its research facilities and staff, and by the scope of the care
the Institute provides.
Our clinical research focuses on treatments like chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy,
immunotherapy and bone marrow transplant. Research also includes finding new ways
to provide better care, manage the symptoms of cancer and the side effects of
treatment, evaluate the impact on an individual’s quality of life, and examine
the cost effectiveness of various treatments.
Collaborative Research
The broad-based Clinical Research Program manages collaborative studies with organizations
such as:
Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group -
one of the largest clinical cancer research organizations in the United States that conducts clinical trials in all types of adult cancers.
