The United Family Medicine Residency Program strives to offer residents and
students quality experiences while improving the health of the communities served.
Residents who seek individual attention and a close relationship with colleagues

The United Family Medicine Residency program is committed to high quality, full-spectrum
primary care, working in partnership with its surrounding communities to improve
the community's health.

Family Practice Center
United Family Practice Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Care Clinic
Look-a-Like (FQHC-LA) model, is located one-half mile from United Hospital and
Children's Hospitals and Clinics - St. Paul, it's core hospitals. United Family
Practice Health Center converted to an FQHC-LA center in February 2004, which
affords the opportunity to best meet our mission of service and education. We
are energized by our opportunities, enhanced services, and continued quality
of patient care and education.
For more than 22 years, United Family Practice Health Center has focused on
meeting the needs of the medically underserved. The clinic offers patients medical
services on a sliding fee scale and averages over 50,000 patient visits per
year, focusing on meeting the needs of the medically underserved, balanced with
serving persons who span the economic spectrum.. The clinic has a long-standing
reputation of service to the community. It has a rich history of partnership
with individuals, families, and community.
United Family Practice Health Center is staffed with both family medicine physicians
and an internal medicine physician actively practicing geriatric medicine, as
well as a physician practicing with a Certificate of Added Qualification in
geriatrics.

Our program offers a variety of settings where residents receive dynamic educational
experiences
- United Hospital, located near downtown St. Paul, has a reputation
for excellence in patient care and state-of-the-art facilities, with innovative
programs such as the John Nasseff Heart Hospital, John Nasseff Neuroscience
Institute, The Breast Center, The Birth Center, radiation oncology, epilepsy
and rehabilitation. United Hospital received the HealthGrades Distinguished
Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence in 2004, receiving the highest rating
possible. United Hospital is the largest hospital in the Twin Cities east
metro area, providing a full range of health care services to more than 160,000
people each year. United's excellent staff, modern facilities, and commitment
to providing patients with the best care using state-of-the-art technology
has helped the hospital attract some of the most renowned and innovative practitioners
in the nation. United's employees and medical staff are committed to placing
patient needs first and treat all individuals with compassion and respect.
- Children's Hospitals and Clinics, on the United Hospital campus,
is one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the area. With over 4,000 babies
born in the Birth Center, the Birth Center is dedicated to excellence in health
care for women and infants. The Birth Center is a designated Level III perinatal
center with staff and resources to care for women with high-risk pregnancies
and births, equipped to handle emergencies 24 hours a day. There is also a
newborn intensive care unit located close to the labor and delivery area.
- Unity Hospital's Intensive Care Unit environment encourages family
medicine physicians to directly address the intensive care needs of their
patients.
- Rural Medicine sites are well established, facilitating a range of
experiences during a core two-month rural clinic rotation in the second year
of the program. The rural faculty are eager to teach residents, with many
of the faculty being residency and fellowship trained.
Accreditation
The United Family Medicine Residency Program is accredited by the American Council
of Graduate Medical Education. The program has earned a Level 5 accreditation
award, the highest award level available to family medicine residency training
programs, reflecting the highest quality of training available to residents.
The program is approved for 18 residency positions (six positions per year).

The United Family Medicine Residency Program is sponsored by Allina Hospitals
and Clinics, the largest not-for-profit provider of health care in the Upper
