Allina Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care is making a difference in our community. Here are some of the ways that we are affecting the lives of hospice patients and their loved ones:
Allina Hospice & Palliative Care has worked closely with Toys for Tots, a generous volunteer, the Allina Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care TLC Fund, and a local Christmas tree lot to make a final Christmas for a father of six a special one.
Metropolitan Transit Council-Hiawatha Light Train Rail helped make a dream come true for a patient of Allina Hospice & Palliative Care. This 86-year-old gentleman used to work in the Minneapolis Roundhouse train station years ago and has closely watched with interest the building of the Hiawatha Light-Rail Line. Metro Transit invited him to be one of the first passengers to leave the Bloomington Central Station. The ride to Minneapolis was a memorable one with his hospice volunteer by his side. He captured memories of the day on his Poloroid camera.
A memorial service was held recently for a woman very loved and appreciated in her community. She had been actively involved by helping friends and neighbors, volunteering at the senior center and the church pre-school. At the pre-school, she became a favorite “grandma” for many three-year-olds. Following her memorial service there was left over cookies and lemonade. The family brought them to the pre-school where she had spent many hours bringing smiles to children.
The daughter of a mother, who had received hospice services six years ago from Allina Hospice & Palliative Care, shared how thankful that she and her father were of the support of Allina Grief Resources. She had been unable to function for some time due to her sadness, but now “has her life back” and has started a new business.
The wife and two daughters of a patient recently in hospice shared delight and appreciation for the "11th Hour" volunteers. The volunteers were present until 2:00 a.m. , providing support to the patient and family. The family was touched by their time and dedication at a special time in their life. "11th Hour" volunteers are specially trained hospice volunteers who are available for support and assistance in the final hours of life.
