Diabetes education: One-on-one session

Photo of a diabetes educator meeting with a patient When a patient is diagnosed with diabetes, he or she should schedule a one-on-one session with a diabetes educator. This session takes place at the clinic and lasts about one hour.

During the session, the patient will:

  • Have the opportunity to talk about the diagnosis.
  • Ask questions.
  • Assess educational needs.
  • Learn about support services offered at the clinic.

Contact your clinic for more information. If you are diagnosed with diabetes, a care coordinator at the clinic will assist you in make an appointment with a diabetes educator.
