Stroke treatment

Hospital care
Stroke treatment begins in the hospital. Most patients who have had a stroke will need to stay in the hospital for a period of time.

Tests
Many tests are used to find the cause(s) of the stroke, measure how bad the stroke is, and make decisions about how to treat it.

Medicines
Not all stroke medicines are right for all stroke survivors. Your doctor will decide which medicines are right for you.

Medicine checklist
Having to take regular medicines may be new for you. You may need to get into new habits or schedules for taking your pills at the same time each day.

Procedures
To prevent another stroke, you may have angioplasty, intra-arterial clot lysis or embolization (treatment of aneurysm).

Surgery
Sometimes a stroke patient has surgery. There are two types of surgeries: craniotomy and carotid endarterectomy.
