What is a stroke? A stroke results when blood and oxygen flow to the brain is stopped or interrupted.
Causes and types of stroke There are two types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic.
Stroke warning signs: Call 911 Stroke symptoms may last a short time and disappear. They are often present when you wake up.
Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs): 'Mini-strokes' In some cases, strokes are preceded by transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or "mini-strokes."
Risk factors and prevention Risk factors increase your chance of having a stroke. Your doctor can help you determine your risk factors -- what you can and cannot control.
