Your hospital stay: Feelings and emotions you may have after birth

Your feelings or emotions after your baby's birth can be quite intense -- and varied. You may be thrilled and excited, and want to call everyone you know with your news. Or you may feel tired, let down, and ready for a good meal and a long nap.

If you had an unexpected birth experience or procedure, like a Cesarean birth, you may be disappointed. You may be relieved and glad that your baby was born safely and is well, but you may also feel guilty or angry because things didn't go as you planned. All of these feelings or emotions are normal and easily understood by other mothers who have experienced what you have.

Talk to your partner, your nurses and your health care provider. Sometimes asking questions about why the choices you made were good ones can be helpful and reassuring.
