For dads and partners: Being at the birth

The moment of your baby’s birth can be powerful. You may feel flooded with all sorts of strong emotions. If there have been concerns during the labor, you may be worried about the health of your baby or be greatly relieved.

You are likely to feel great pride in your partner for having given birth. You may see her as being stronger or braver than you ever imagined. You may feel a flood of love for both your partner and your baby.

It may take awhile to sort out your feelings. Talking with your partner and your partner’s health care provider can help you better understand the events around the birth of your baby. Telling friends and family about the birth is also helpful.
