Partnering with your baby's doctor: Well child visits

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends more visits in the first year of life than in later years. During the first year infants require more vaccinations, have more illnesses, and need more health supervision than at any other time in their lives.

The AAP recommends six visits in the first year at these times:

  • 1-3 weeks (sooner if hospital stay was less than 48 hours)
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
