Sibling rivalry

Siblings normally feel jealous of a new arrival in the home. Involving the siblings in the pregnancy and birth can reduce these normal feelings.

  • To the extent possible, have the siblings visit in the hospital and become familiar with their new brother or sister.
  • Buying a toy for the sibling and giving it to him or her when the new baby comes home also helps.
