Hygiene: Diaper rash
Many babies get diaper rash at about this age. Here's how to prevent or deal with such discomfort:
- Change the diaper soon after it is wet/soiled. Moisture and chemicals in the urine, and enzymes in the stool can irritate and damage an infant's tender skin.
- Expose the diaper area to air. Too much moisture causes most rashes. Keeping the skin dry reduces the likelihood of rash.
- Avoid baby wipes with chemicals. The chemicals can further irritate some babies' skin, especially after it is already chafed.
Changes in stooling patternAs infants grow, they pass stools less frequently. Their intestines hold more bulk and absorb more water. Some breastfed infants may stool only once every three to four days.
Infrequent stools do not mean your baby is constipated. There shouldn't be a problem as long as it is not difficult for your baby to pass them.
