Need to cut down on the salt? Add this main dish -- flavored with garlic, onions, pepper and red wine -- to your menu.
Ingredients1 pound extra lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 (28 oz.) can no-salt diced tomatoes
1 (6 oz.) can no-salt tomato paste
1 teaspoon low-sodium beef bouillon granules
1/2 cup red table wine
1 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 (8 oz.) package spaghetti
Directions
- Brown ground beef in large non-stick skillet.
- Pour off the fat.
- Add all ingredients except spaghetti.
- Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. You may add water if the sauce is too thick.
- Cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Do not add salt to the cooking water.
- Drain and put the spaghetti in a serving bowl.
- Pour the sauce over the spaghetti and serve right away.
