Spaghetti with meat sauce

Need to cut down on the salt? Add this main dish -- flavored with garlic, onions, pepper and even red wine -- to your menu.

Ingredients

1 pound extra lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 (28 oz.) can no-salt diced tomatoes
1 (6 oz.) can no-salt tomato paste
1 teaspoon low-sodium beef bouillon granules
1/2 cup red table wine
1 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 (8 oz.) package spaghetti

Directions

  1. Brown ground beef in large non-stick skillet.
  2. Pour off the fat.
  3. Add all ingredients except spaghetti.
  4. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. You may add water if the sauce is too thick.
  5. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Do not add salt to the cooking water.
  6. Drain and put the spaghetti in a serving bowl.
  7. Pour the sauce over the spaghetti and serve right away.
