Pneumococcal vaccine is an immunization againstStreptococcus pneumoniae, a bacterium that frequently causes meningitis and pneumonia in the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Pneumococcal pneumonia accounts for 10 to 25% of all pneumonias.
